Anastomose cólon-trígono vesical em cães Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Pereira,L.C.; Araújo,R.B.; Gheller,V.A.; Candian,L.S.; Lavalle,G.E.; Malta,M.C.C.; Oliveira,P.P..

Cunha,R.M.C.; Lavalle,G.E.; Reis,D.C.; Horta,R.S.; Teixeira,S.V.; Ramirez,J.A.; Araújo,R.B..
ABSTRACT Electrochemotherapy is a local anticancer treatment in which non-permeant chemotherapeutic drugs are associated with electric pulses of well-established parameters. The electric pulses cause pores to open on the plasma membrane and facilitate drug transport, enhancing cytotoxicity and reducing side effects. Assessment of electrochemotherapy effects on Ehrlich solid tumor development in this work aims to evaluate in vivo usage of the electroporator device developed by the Department of Electrical Engineering of Engineering School of UFMG. Therefore, 40 Swiss mice were inoculated with Ehrlich tumor cells, and developed the tumor in solid form. After 21 days, mice were subjected to specific treatment protocols (control, bleomycin, electric pulses and...

Teixeira,N.C.T.; Bicalho,A.P.C.V.; Vasconcelos,A.V.; Horta,R.S.; Cunha,R.M.C.; Lavalle,G.E..
ABSTRACT Metronomic chemotherapy consists of an anticancer modality treatment. It is applicable in patients at an advanced stage, with the objective of increasing overall survival. The aim of this study was to report an anal sac apocrine carcinoma case in a dog with lymph node metastasis treated with metronomic chemotherapy sequential to surgery and conventional chemotherapy using gemcitabine and carboplatin. Metronomic chemotherapy was associated with cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitors, due to strong tumor COX-2 immunohistochemistry expression. Metronomic chemotherapy was initiated with cyclophosphamide, but it was replaced by lomustine, also in metronomic dosage, due to adverse effects. Treatment showed effectiveness, since the patient's overall...

Clinical and pathological aspects of multicentric hemangiosarcoma in a Pinscher dog Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Martins,B.D.C.; Torres,B.B.J.; Rodriguez,A.A.M.; Gamba,C.O.; Cassali,G.D.; Lavalle,G.E.; Martins,G.D.C.; Melo,E.G..
A 3-year-old female Pinscher dog was presented with a history of lameness and pain in hind limbs for one week which acutely progressed to non-ambulatory paraparesis. The dog had been apathetic and anorexic during the six days prior to presentation. The neurological findings were compatible with upper motor neuron signs to the left hind limb due to a spinal cord compressive mass on the twelfth thoracic vertebral body. On the other hand, signs of lower motor neurons to the right hind limb were due to a mass with a pathological fracture in the right proximal femur, compressing the sciatic nerve. A histopathological analysis of all organs revealedthe proliferation of endothelial cells showingin filtrative growth and organization into vascular structures with a...

Nunes,F.C.; Campos,C.B.; Teixeira,S.V.; Bertagnolli,A.C.; Lavalle,G.E.; Cassali,G.D..
ABSTRACT Canine mammary neoplasms (CMNs) are the most frequent lesions and in female dogs. However, studies correlating pathological criteria with clinical evolution in female dogs with mammary neoplasms are scarce. The present study aims to present epidemiological, clinical-pathological and overall survival data to help establish the prognosis and understand the biological behavior of CMNs. A total of 1539 cases were included (85% malignant and 13% benign). Tumor size was an important prognostic factor and was associated with overall patient survival (P< 0.0001). Most dogs diagnosed with malignant neoplasms (83%) had initial clinical staging, although 17% had regional or distant metastases at the time of diagnosis and lower overall survival (P<...

Evaluation of adjuvant chemotherapy in feline injection site-associated sarcoma Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Pereira,S.T.; Campos,C.B.; Horta,R.S.; Lavalle,G.E.; Araujo,R.B..
ABSTRACT Feline Injection Site-Associated Sarcoma (FISS) is a neoplasm that implies in reduction of quality of life and overall survival in feline patients. A retrospective study of 13 cases of FISS was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of surgical treatment associated to chemotherapy with doxorubicin or carboplatin. Local recurrence occurred in all patients. Patients treated with surgery and chemotherapy presented a longer overall survival and disease-free interval when compared to those that solely received surgical treatment, although no statistical significance was observed (p= 0.3360 and 0.7506, respectively). Surgery remains as the main option for FISS treatment. Further prospective studies with larger samples are warranted to investigate the...

Hepatic cirrhosis in a red-foot tortoise (Geochelone carbonaria): a case report Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Guedes,R.M.C.; Lavalle,G.E..
